Overview:
Check bin errors occur over the input tray bins. There are multiple potential causes for check bin errors to happen. This article will aid in the troubleshooting and resolution of check bin errors.
Potential Cause(s):
- Input tray bin(s) over filled
- Missing black line (white interiors only)
- Misidentification
- Sagging frame
- Faulty parts
- Cards physically misplaced (please refer to Troubleshooting Guide: Card Misplaced Errors (Classic))
Input tray bins over filled:
If any of the input tray bins are filled over the fill line, this will trigger a check bin error for the bin(s) that is overfilled. The two ways this can happen are:
- Manually over filled when loaded into input tray
- Curled foils
How to Resolve:
- Remove cards from overfilled bin(s) until cards are below fill line
- Once the appropriate amount of cards are removed, resume the sort
- If the issue persists, contact Customer Support
Missing black line: (white interiors only)
This is specific to the older model sorters with the white interiors. There is a black sharpie line on the floor of the input tray area. The reason this line is there is to complete the outline of a card. If the line is too damaged or faded the sorter can get confused and does not "see" the bottom of the bin correctly.
How to Resolve:
To redraw the black sharpie line, you will need the following items:
- 91% isopropyl alcohol
- Lint free cloth
- Black, Fine Point Sharpie
- Ruler
Once you have the items ready,
- Remove the input tray
- Use the 91% isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth to clean the input tray area
- Once clean, line up the ruler with the faded black line
- While holding the ruler in place, retrace the black sharpie
- Perform a test sort to ensure the issue is resolved
- If the issue persists, contact Customer Support
Misidentification:
Misidentification of bin bottoms and cards can cause check bin errors.
Bin Bottom Misidentification:
If no cards are in the bin, sometimes the sorter will misidentify the bottom of an input tray bin as a card. This happens when the bin bottom is similar to cards artwork. This tends to happen more often with older input trays and with Pokémon sorts.
How to Resolve:
- Add a green divider card into the affected bin
- Report to Customer Support so a root cause can be identified
Card Misidentification:
If there are cards in the bin, sometimes the sorter will misidentify card in the bin is the bottom of the bin. This usually will lead to an input tray bin overflowing and can cause damage to cards.
How to Resolve:
- Fully power cycle the sorter (see Troubleshooting Guide: Card Misplaced Errors (Classic) No Cards Misplaced section)
- Report to Customer Support so a root cause can be identified
Sagging Frame:
This can happen when the input tray section of the frame is slightly sagging. This allows the front part of the input tray area to droop towards the front of the sorter. This prevents the piston from reaching the bottom of the input tray bins.
How to Resolve:
- Place a rubber foot under the portion of the frame that is experiencing the check bin error
- Perform a test sort to ensure the issue is resolved
- If the issue persists, contact Customer Support
